The little things

This morning after I dropped my son and niece off at school, I headed over to Dillons since we were all out of eggs. Lily and I eat eggs every morning for breakfast. It's one thing she generally eats since she's not a big eater.

As I was putting Lily in her car seat to leave I had seen an older man getting out of his car. He was probably in his 80's and had a cane. He said, "ma'am, can you give this to..." He was walking REALLY slow and had something in his hand. I figured he needed some help getting something to someone since he was having a slow time getting around. I wasn't going to refuse helping him either. I was happy to help out!

As I made my way over he reached out his hand with something in it and said, "Here, this is for your daughter, I saw you putting her in over there. You can put it in her savings." It was a dollar coin. Now, many people might say it's only a dollar, or it's not even worth it, but I on the other hand was so blessed by it! It was the generous thought and gesture that made it so special too. He reminded me of my grandpa who passed away just in October. I miss him.

This afternoon I got a call from my dad and as were were talking he asked me, "Well, what's some good news?" Those type of questions throw me a little. I usually have a hard time coming up with things. Mine are always so generic. I have a good friend who started writing down 3 things each day that she was thankful for. No repeats! I think it's a GREAT idea! Plus, sometimes we miss the great things that God does for us because we're looking for something too large. Especially when he does little things all the time that make a HUGE difference, but we miss them. Well, today I had something to share! I told him the story and he said said he had just had a prayer meeting last night and the verse that came up was this:

Who dares despise the day of small things....
Zechariah 4:10

Even though it was a small gesture, it was still huge! Thanks God for the little things!

Aw! Bless that gentleman's heart! Love it! That's so sweet... a little kiss from God to say, "I'm thinking about you Lily & Cristina!" And I like the verse from Dad.

Jesus said, "Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me." Something I've learned is that when someone does something for my child, it's for me too, because it lights up a piece of my heart that's reserved for such things. So really, the blessing ends up being bigger than the face value of the coin that was given.

I'm so glad you could recognize God in a "little" thing, because when we fail to see God in the little things, we fail to see God.
